Ainsley Earhardt: Our next guest says reinstate title 42 as a way to curb the fentanyl that’s coming across the border. GOP Senator Tim Scott joins us now. It’s such a great idea, Senator, because before it was Covid, and now this is a national health crisis, too, because fentanyl’s killing so many people.
Tim Scott: Absolutely. 70,000 Americans have lost their lives because of fentanyl. Much of it preventable if we closed our southern border, extended Title 42, and had a president who would do his job. He’s left our border insecure, unsafe, and wide open. We deserve better as Americans. And Ainsley, as you know, in South Carolina, the College of Charleston is a big school. The former business school dean lost his son this year because of fentanyl. This is impacting lives throughout the country. Every county in the nation is a border county.
Steve Doocy: Right, but Senator, you know, the White House says most of the fentanyl coming into this country is stopped at the ports. So, you know, that’s what they say… You know, they’re not counting the people who go through the desert where there is no wall, there is no fence. They’re saying we’re catching most of it right there.
Scott: Well, Steve, here’s what we know. 70,000 dead Americans, the families, the loved ones would say something very different. What we understand is that Mexican cartels are trafficking the fentanyl across our open, poorest southern border, number one. Number two, we know the precursors come from China. We have a president who is abdicating his responsibility. If he does his job, we close our border. I have legislation that extends the healthcare crisis on our border. I have legislation that provides 10 billion dollars for more of a border wall. I have legislation that provides 5 billion dollars for the technology so we can surveil our entire border to stop fentanyl. We don’t have a president who wants to not negotiate, just do his job.
